Wariyapola Sri Sumangala Piriven Rajamaha Viharaya

This serene Buddhist monastery located in Kurunegala district is the centre of the chapter that hails from the acclaimed patriotic Buddhist monk most Ven. Wariyapola Sumangala Thero.

Wariyapola

According to a legendary folk epic, the warrior King Ravana is said to have used the flat rock which is situated at the temple premises, for his wonder aircraft "Dandumonara" , as his launching pad, hence this village is called "Wariya Pola" meaning the AirPort.
