Walking Buddha Statue is not a common
occurrence in Sri Lanka. Even archaeological facts do not provide any
historical evidence. However, there are such artifacts and monuments
with walking stance
in South East Asia. The tallest of such
statues is about 52 feet high and found in Buddhamonthon
in Phutthamonthon District,
Thailand.
Wariyapola Sri Sumangala Piriven Rajamaha
Viharaya is taking initiatives to construct a walking Buddha statue, 60
feet high. Once this gigantic task is completed, it will be the tallest
of its kind in the world. |
